SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA - The Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities (HSRU) is proud to announce the selection of its second cohort of Postdoctoral Fellows, marking the continued growth of a coordinated initiative designed to expand pathways to the professoriate across R1 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).
The new cohort includes 29 fellows representing 17 HSRU member universities, reflecting the breadth and strength of the Alliance’s national network. As the inaugural cohort prepares to conclude its fellowship year in June, the selection of Cohort Two reflects both sustained institutional engagement and a shared commitment to supporting emerging scholars pursuing faculty careers at research-intensive HSIs.
Selected through institutional nominations, fellows represent a range of disciplines and are united by a demonstrated interest in advancing research and student success as complementary priorities within the academic enterprise. The program is intentionally designed to leverage the collective capacity of HSRU institutions, creating a cross-campus experience that extends beyond any single university.
Throughout the fellowship year, participants engage in structured programming that includes expert-led sessions, cross-institutional collaboration, and site visits to other HSRU campuses. A distinguishing feature of the program is the opportunity for fellows to engage directly with university presidents and senior leaders, offering insight into the leadership, mission, and strategic direction of research-intensive HSIs.
“This second cohort reflects the strength of our institutions and the shared commitment to developing the next generation of faculty and research leaders,” said Cynthia Larive, Chair of HSRU. “Through this collaboration, we are investing in scholars whose work will contribute to both research advancement and institutional impact.”
“The continued growth of this program highlights what is possible through the HSRU model,” said Azuri Gonzalez, Executive Director of HSRU. “Each year, our institutions identify and support exceptional talent, creating opportunities for scholars to build community, gain insight into the professoriate, and engage with the broader mission of research-intensive Hispanic-Serving Institutions.”
The HSRU Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was created to draw on the collective strengths of its member institutions, providing fellows with access to a national network of peers, mentors, and institutional leaders. Participating universities nominate candidates annually, ensuring that each cohort reflects both institutional priorities and the broader goals of the Alliance.
As the program enters its second year, it continues to provide a structured pathway for postdoctoral scholars to explore faculty careers within a collaborative, mission-driven network of research universities.
